The story of Hope Lutheran Church began long before our congregation was officially established. Our roots reach back to two faithful Lutheran communities in the Northwestern Lehigh area: St. Paul's Lutheran Church (Indianland), organized in 1784, and Christ Lutheran Church (Little Moore), organized in 1830.
For many years, these congregations shared ministry and worship opportunities while remaining separate church families. As the communities grew and the needs of their members evolved, a vision emerged for a united congregation and a shared place of worship.
In the early 1970s, members of both churches began praying and planning for a new church home where they could gather regularly for worship, fellowship, and service. Guided by faith and a commitment to God's mission, the two congregations joined together to form Hope Lutheran Church in 1973.
The journey was not without challenges. During the planning process, the congregation experienced the heartbreaking loss of Pastor Al Hanson and his wife, Imogene. Even in the midst of grief, members remained steadfast in their faith and continued the work that had begun. Through prayer, determination, and trust in God's guidance, plans moved forward for the new congregation and church building.
In 1974, Hope Lutheran Church's new building was consecrated, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the life of the congregation. The name "Hope" reflected both the faith of those who came before and the confidence they placed in God's promises for the future.
Since then, generations of members have worshiped, served, celebrated, and supported one another within these walls. While much has changed over the years, our mission remains the same: to share the love of Jesus Christ, grow in faith, and serve our neighbors with compassion.
Today, Hope Lutheran Church continues to build upon the legacy of St. Paul's and Christ Lutheran Church. We give thanks for the faithful members who laid the foundation before us and look forward with hope as God continues to guide our congregation into the future.
